Organ Spotlight

This lovely instrument, which stands on the Gallery of this marvellous building, was originally constructed for the former St. Serf's Church, Alva, near Stirling by Messrs Forster and Andrews of Hull in 1895.

When St. Serf's was unfortunately closed, the organ was carefully dismantled and installed after restoration in Holy Cross Church, Glasgow.

Due to restrictions of space on the Gallery, the organ was divided and the casework constructed so that the magnificent stained glass windows could still be seen.

The opportunity was also taken to provide a new electric action, drawstop console with full accessories and two electric blowers. The tonal range was upgraded, particularly on the pedal department with additional stops.

It was a great honour, that His Grace 'The Most Reverend Thomas Joseph Winning', Archbishop of Glasgow conducted a service of Dedication and Blessing on Friday 29th April, 1983.

A Musical Evening followed with the Archdiocesan Boys Choir and Organ Recital by Joseph Cullen, F.R.C.O., B.A.Cantab.
